IELTS Writing Practice 2

Nowadays, a large number of advertisements are aimed at children. Some people think this brings some negative effects and should be banned. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this opinion?


Stepping into the new generation of entertainment, the TV advertisement never fails to draw people's attention. Recently an ongoing debate which has become the center of controversy goes like this: "The TV commercials for children ought to be prohibited as they are detrimental to the mental development of kids." In my view, the advertisement on television is beneficial to us more than disadvantage.


First of all, with the information from TV advertisement, people are able to acquire the knowledge of latest goods. Particularly in contemporary world, businessmen are always persuading the their target clients to purchase. And children are one the critical customers by all means, while the one who pay usually are their parents. Among the TV advertisement, most of them concerned with educational purpose. Not only can children be informed of favorable contents, but parents are able to join the growth of their kids.


Nonetheless, there is an increasing number of TV advertisement aimed at children that can lead to addiction, such as fast food, therefore result in an unhealthy life. In addition, by the influence of amazing screen effects, children tend to demand parents buying toys or food showed on TV for them, developing an overconsumed behavior sequentially, which can affect their mind after growing up.


In summary, the TV advertisement for children is not necessary to be completely banned, but need to be under scrutiny of the authorities. With the cautious examination, it ends up children can enjoy a happy and healthy childhood.
